Banhez Mezcal Joven Espadin is a captivating spirit born in the highlands of Ejutla, Oaxaca, crafted by a family of traditional mezcaleros who continue to embrace generational methods. This ensemble mezcal brings together 90% Espadín (Agave Angustifolia) and 10% Barril (Agave Karwinskii), distilled in copper stills to preserve the delicate character of both agaves. At 42% ABV, it stands as a beautifully balanced joven expression that captures the earthy essence of Oaxaca while offering a lighter, more approachable profile.
On the nose and palate, this mezcal is vibrant and clean with soft floral aromas, followed by notes of tropical fruit—pineapple and banana—wrapped in gentle smoke. The Espadín lends a sweet, herbaceous backbone, while the Barril introduces subtle minerality and structure. The interplay of fruit and earth gives it an elegance that makes it ideal for both sipping and mixing. It's not overly smoky, making it welcoming to new mezcal drinkers while still satisfying seasoned aficionados.
Best enjoyed neat to fully appreciate its complexity, Banhez Mezcal Joven also shines in citrus-forward cocktails like a mezcal margarita or Oaxaca old fashioned. Its bright, fruity finish and smooth body make it a staple for those exploring artisanal mezcal. From the fields of Oaxaca to your glass, this is a spirit rooted in tradition and crafted with care.
